What We Believe

Foundation

 LiveByFaith_main
There is one true God. He is the Creator of the Universe and is the Supreme Ruler over everything that exists. He has always existed as three coequal persons: God the Father, God the Word (or God the Son, Jesus), and God the Holy Spirit. He is not three gods, but rather One God who exists in three Persons.

Of all creatures in material Creation, only humans are made in God’s likeness. God has made Himself known to us through the Living Word (His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ), through the written word (the Holy Bible), and also through Creation itself.

Our world has been alienated from God by sin, but God is reconciling all things to Himself through the death and resurrection of Christ by means of the gospel ministry with which He has entrusted the church.

This is the gospel, or the “good news”! God inserted Himself into the middle of our history to set things right through the sacrifice of Himself, that is Christ, the “Second Person” of the Godhead, or the unique Son of God (John 3:16). Jesus will return to finalize what He started in God’s own good time. Until then, it is the most basic of human responsibilities to worship Him, and keep the faith at all costs.

Commitment

Hosanna-Theme

The LaVergne family is a Bible believing, Bible teaching, and Bible practicing church. We’re dedicated to the following doctrines taught in the Word. The list is not all-inclusive, but represents core truths to which we are committed. The Bible is absolutely true and authoritative at all times, in all places, and for all people (2 Timothy 3:16–17). Water baptism (immersion) is for/into the forgiveness of sins (Acts 2:38) and the point when God adds a believer to the church (Acts 2:47). Assembling with the church for worship on Sunday (including observing Communion, or the Lord’s Supper) is an essential part of faithful Christian living (Acts 20:7; Hebrews 10:24–25). We’re committed to the original practice of the apostolic church of singing hymns in worship without instrumental accompaniment (Ephesians 5:19; Colossians 3:16). We’re committed to the biblical principle of male leadership in church offices, public worship, and in Christian homes (1 Timothy 2:11–12, 3:1–2, 12). Marriage is legitimate exclusively between one male and one female and is intended to be a lifelong commitment (Matthew 19:4-6). All sexual activity outside of marriage is sinful.

Relevance

The Bible is God’s Word, and thus it cannot possibly fail to be relevant to every area of human concern. When God the Holy Spirit led the ancient prophets and apostles to write the various parts of the Bible (2 Peter 1:20–21), He led them to write in such a way that no civilization will ever outgrow the teaching (Numbers 23:19; Malachi 3:6; Matthew 5:18, 24:35; Mark 13:31; 21:33). God does not change. He is absolutely perfect, and so was His word when it was completed near the close of the 1st Century AD, and it remains perfect today (Psalm 19:7). Adding to it, taking from it, or perverting its teachings leads to condemnation (Deuteronomy 12:32; Proverbs 30:6; 2 Peter 3:15–18; Revelation 22:18–19).

Nothing is more certain than that there is a perfect standard of righteousness that we all ought to live by. Sadly, none of us do so perfectly. We all sin and God is the righteous judge. Judgment Day is coming. As surely as you were born you will stand before the Judgment seat of Christ and give account of all you’ve thought, said, and done in this life. Seeing that you’ve sinned, you have no hope on your own. You need a Savior. Jesus is the only one! Let us help you come to know Him.
