The Home - Part 2

The deterioration of the home as of late is a great tragedy. It has been said that one hundred years from now people will look back on the twentieth century and call it the century in which the home fell apart. Stable homes have gradually disappeared. Insensitivity to moral standards has become the rule in our society. Only a small percentage of marriages are entered into with God's laws in mind.. Last year millions of divorces took place, most of which ended after marriages of three years or less. So many simply do not know how to appreciate what a marriage involves.

God is concerned about the home, because He instituted it. Jesus, while on this earth, even visited many homes.

Some Homes Jesus Visited

The home of Peter (Mark 1:29-31). Christ had great compassion on this home when healed Peter's mother-in-law.

The home of Jairus (Mark 5:22-43). Jairus' daughter had died and Jesus brought her back from the dead.

The home of Mary and Martha (Luke 10:38-42). Martha had a problem which she was not even aware of. Jesus helped to understand what was truly valuable in life.

The home of Zachaeus (Luke 19:1-10). He was a traitor in the eyes of the Jews. He was a tax-collector for the Roman government. Jesus ate in the house of this man who was considered a sinner.

Jesus left these homes better than he found them. When homes leave Jesus out of them, they will be a a definite disadvantage. Some homes only pretend to be Christian homes, and all the while Christ is not really given a welcome place in them. The homes would truly be embarrassed if Jesus were to unexpectedly pay them a visit.

How to determine if Jesus lives in your home:

Are love and companionship there? Don't wait until you bury a loved one before you think about expressing your love and care for them.

Are moral standards there? It is impossible for Christ to work effectively in a home where moral standards are not practiced. Young people, be glad when you see that your parents hold to God's moral standard.

Is fidelity to God there? When Jesus is truly welcome in a home, you can be sure that fidelity to God will be there. Does your home spend time in worship with the saints? in prayer? in Bible study?

Mark 1:29-31
29 And forthwith, when they were come out of the synagogue, they entered into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.
30 But Simon's wife's mother lay sick of a fever, and anon they tell him of her.
31 And he came and took her by the hand, and lifted her up; and immediately the fever left her, and she ministered unto them.

Mark 5:22-43
22 And, behold, there cometh one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name; and when he saw him, he fell at his feet,
23 And besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lieth at the point of death: I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live.
24 And Jesus went with him; and much people followed him, and thronged him.
25 And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years,
26 And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse,
27 When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment.
28 For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole.
29 And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague.
30 And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes?
31 And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?
32 And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing.
33 But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth.
34 And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.
35 While he yet spake, there came from the ruler of the synagogue's house certain which said, Thy daughter is dead: why troublest thou the Master any further?
36 As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe.
37 And he suffered no man to follow him, save Peter, and James, and John the brother of James.
38 And he cometh to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and seeth the tumult, and them that wept and wailed greatly.
39 And when he was come in, he saith unto them, Why make ye this ado, and weep? the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth.
40 And they laughed him to scorn. But when he had put them all out, he taketh the father and the mother of the damsel, and them that were with him, and entereth in where the damsel was lying.
41 And he took the damsel by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise.
42 And straightway the damsel arose, and walked; for she was of the age of twelve years. And they were astonished with a great astonishment.
43 And he charged them straitly that no man should know it; and commanded that something should be given her to eat.

Luke 10:38-42
38 Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house.
39 And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard his word.
40 But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.
41 And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:
42 But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.

Luke 19:1-10
1 And Jesus entered and passed through Jericho.
2 And, behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus, which was the chief among the publicans, and he was rich.
3 And he sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not for the press, because he was little of stature.
4 And he ran before, and climbed up into a sycomore tree to see him: for he was to pass that way.
5 And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house.
6 And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully.
7 And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, That he was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner.
8 And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord: Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold.
9 And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham.
10 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.
