The Eternal Importance of the Word of God

Many examples show us that words guide and govern us. The Bible says, "..and God said..". It was through the words of the Law of Moses that the Jews were directed. It was through the words of the prophets that the chosen people were warned of the dangers of leaving God. And secularly speaking, the words of our own Constitution govern our lives as citizens of the nation of which we are a part.

The Word of God...

...brings light to our life. (Psalms 119:105)
Light helps us in many ways. It keep us from stumbling. It keeps us on the right path. Spiritually speaking, this world is full of darkness. We need a light to guide us in our spiritual lives (Ephesians 5:8; Titus 3:3). Are we living according to the light of the scriptures? (Matthew 5:14-16)

...investigates into our lives.
Many people live what they consider to be "good, moral" lives, but sadly the choose to base this conclusion upon something other than the word of God. The word of God reveals a life which is sinful in the eyes of God - because they have not chosen to obey the gospel found in God's word. We must ultimately answer for any and all of our sins not dealt with according to that Word.

...plays the role of motivater. (Acts 7:54,57,58)
Many will become angry when they are presented with the gospel. Many will defiantly reject it. Others will be motivated by it, but not to the point of obeying it. Some, however, will be motivated not only to accept it but also to obey it (Acts 2:38,41).

...has the ability to bring life.
Without Christ's sacrifice for the world, we are dead in our sins (Hebrews 1:1,2; Matthew 28:18). Christ is the authority to which we must turn - to Christ alone and not any other self-professed modern day prophets. We must go to the word of God for the eternal words of life. God will not tell us in some personal miraculous way what to receive salvation. Salvation comes only through obedience to the gospel as found in the word of God.

...will be the standard by which we each will be judged in the last day.

Psalms 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

Ephesians 5:8 For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light.

Titus 3:3 For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.

Matthew 5:14-16
14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Acts 7:54,57,58
54 When they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed on him with their teeth.
57 Then they cried out with a loud voice, and stopped their ears, and ran upon him with one accord,
58 And cast him out of the city, and stoned him: and the witnesses laid down their clothes at a young man's feet, whose name was Saul.

Acts 2:38,41
38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.

Hebrews 1:1,2
1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,
2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;

Matthew 28:18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
