David Letterman has popularized the concept of a "top ten list." Many folks have picked up this concept and adapted it for a variety of purposes.
Someone has come up with a "top ten list" relative to Bible reading:
TOP TEN SIGNS YOU MAY NOT BE READING YOUR BIBLE ENOUGH:
10) The Preacher announces the sermon is from Genesisand you check the table of contents.
9) You think Abraham, Isaac & Jacob may have had a few hit songs during the 60's.
8) You open the Gospel of Luke and a WWII Savings Bond falls out.
7) Your favorite Old Testament Patriarch is Hercules.
6) A small family of woodchucks has taken up residence in the Psalms of your Bible.
5) You become frustrated because Charlton Heston isn't listed in either the Concordance or the Table of Contents.
4) You think that an epistle might be the wife of an apostle.
3) You think the Minor Prophets worked in the quarries.
2) You keep falling for it every time when the preacher tells you to turn to the book of Hezekiah.
And the number one sign you may not be reading your Bible enough:
1) Your kids keep asking too many questions about your usual bedtime story: "Jonah, the Shepherd Boy, and His Ark of Many Colors."
But seriously, how well do you know your Bible? Do you read it, study it, live it, and share it? To reject Bible knowledge starts a process that endangers your soul.
In the times of the prophets, the Lord said, "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me; Because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children" (Hosea 4:6, NKJV).
Paul said, "Till I come, give attention to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine" (1 Timothy 4:13).And Luke records, "These were more fair-minded that those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so" (Acts 17:11).
