PLANNED PREACHING FOR 2006
Houston Bynum

I am so encouraged by your reception of last Sunday's sermons: "Introducing the Bible" & "How to Study the OT." I believe that planned preaching can help to provide churches with a well-balanced spiritual diet.

Paul proclaimed whatever was "helpful" & declared "the whole counsel of God" (Acts 20:20, 27, NKJV). Balance is the key in so many areas & the pulpit is no exception. If a preacher is not careful, important subjects may receive little or no attention in his sermons. If variety is the "spice of life," variety can be the "spice of sermons" as many different helpful topics can be planned & preached in the course of a year.

On Sunday mornings, my sermon plan for 2006 is to preach on different monthly topics. Months & topics are as follows:

January - Bible
February - God
March - Holy Spirit
April - Christ
May - Salvation
June - Marriage
July -
Problems
August - Church
September - Stewardship
October - False Doctrines
November - Worship
December - Last Things

I am also encouraged by your interest & participation in our Daily Bible Readings for 2006. In whatever way you may want to pace yourself & keep a record, we hope you will read your Bible through this year. (Remember that 2 different kinds of Bible Reading Guides are available in the foyer).

On Sunday evenings, my sermon plan for 2006 is to preach on each of the 39 OT books (Genesis - Malachi) during this year. This should compliment our daily Bible readings. I will be using material called "Walk Thru the Bible." This is a comprehensive learning system to help both young & old alike to remember the content of each book of the Bible. Handout sheets will be provided with each of my lessons for you & your children to study. You can compile a folder of the 39 books this year. This learning method encourages each family to read & study the Bible together. What great benefits are in store for us all!

In 2006, lets "Walk Thru the Bible" here at LaVergne! Share the Bible reading guides with friends & relatives. Invite others to come to services with you. Encourage everyone in daily Bible readings. (How's your progress? Have you completed 25 chapters or 25 pages this week?) Let's all "grow in the grace & knowledge of our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ" (2 Pet. 3:18). Be a DBR (daily Bible reader)!
