SONGS ABOUT JESUS
Houston Bynum

For many folks, some of the most meaningful songs in the hymnbook have lyrics about the life and death of Jesus. From even a young age, most of us learned to sing and to love such songs as, "Jesus Loves Me," and "Away in a Manger."

Among the most beautiful songs are those hymns about the birth of Jesus. Even though we do not know the day on which Jesus was born, we remember that angels, shepherds, and wise men worshiped Him. And Christians should always give praise, thanks, and glory to God for heaven's greatest gift - the Son of God, who was virgin-born, lived the perfect life, taught with perfection, proved His deity by His miracles, died on the cross for our salvation, arose from the dead, and ascended back to His Father. His birth truly brought "Joy to the World" as He was named "Jesus," which means "He will save His people from their sins" (Mt. 1:21, NKJV).

Consider His miracle-filled life as described in this currently popular song:

MARY, DID YOU KNOW?
Mark Lowry & Buddy Greene

Mary did you know that your baby boy would some day walk on water?
Mary did you know that your baby boy would save our sons and daughters?
Did you know that your baby boy has come to make you new?
This child that you've delivered will soon deliver you.

Mary did you know that your baby boy would give sight to a blind man?
Mary did you know that your baby boy would calm a storm with his hand?
Did you know that your baby boy has walked where angels trod?
And when your kiss your little baby, you have kissed the face of God.
Oh Mary did you know.

The blind will see, the deaf will hear, the dead will live again.
The lame will leap, the dumb will speak, the praises of the lamb.

Mary did you know that your baby boy is Lord of all creation?
Mary did you know that your baby boy would one day rule the nations?
Did you know that your baby boy is heaven's perfect Lamb?
This sleeping child you're holding is the great I AM!
