A teacher once asked a group of students to list
what they thought were the current Seven Wonders of the World.
Though there were some disagreements, the following received the
most votes:
1. Egypt's Great Pyramids
2. Taj Mahal
3. Grand Canyon
4. Panama Canal
5. Empire State Building
6. St. Peter's Basilica
7. China's Great Wall
While gathering the votes, the teacher noted that one
quiet student hadn't turned in her paper yet. So she asked the
girl if she was having trouble with her list. The girl replied,
"Yes, a little. I couldn't quite make up my mind because
there were so many."
The teacher said, "Well, tell us what you have, and maybe
we can help."
The girl hesitated, then read, "I think the Seven Wonders
of the World are:
1. to love
2. to feel (empathy & understanding)
3. to see
4. to hear
5. to touch (hug)
6. to laugh
7. to taste."
The room was so quiet you could have heard a pin drop.
The psalmist David said, "For You formed my inward parts;
You covered [wove, NASB] me in my mother's womb. I will praise
You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your
works, And that my soul knows very well" (Psalm 139:13-14,
NKJV).
Of all God's creations, the human being is unique. People have
wonderful design, meaning, and value in the estimation of God.
Humans are made in the very image of deity (Genesis 1:26). Although
there are some similarities to animals, there are important differences
and complexities in anatomy, physiology, emotion. Especially remember
that of all creatures, only the human being possesses an immortal
soul-which is worth more than the gain of the entire world (Matthew
16:26).
Of all the wonders in the world of God's creation, a human being
with an immortal soul is the most wondrous! But a question:
Is your soul saved by the grace of God? If not, why not confess
your faith in Christ, repent of sins, and be baptized this very
day? (Romans 10:10; Acts 2:38; 22:16). And then, as a Christian,
faithfully use your wonderful, God-given talents to His glory!
(Matthew 25:14-30).
